anon.'s journey over the last 4 and counting years has been a rollercoaster of ups, downs, twists and turns! Here's a personal account by Co-Founder, Pianist & Managing Director Nicole Tj.
You know what, we keep on figuring out as we go, but I am confident now that it feels different. I am truly excited to be relaunching our website - the digital face of who we are as anon., and in a broader sense our identity and purpose. As co-founders, Thomas and I have taken (literally) the last 12 months to figure out what’s next, and apart from pushing our creative collaborations and classical music vision even further, we want to share our real stories with you guys. We truly believe in the power of new perspectives, and together we want to build a network of people who thrive on thinking creatively, thinking curiously.
Looking back at our story so far, everything we did was driven first by our love for music, our restless minds and ridiculous urge to just make something different happen, and the high you get from being able to drive 100% something that is entirely your own and no one else’s. We soaked up musical inspirations from Yuja Wang to Ray Chen, to interdisciplinary arts/design practices, to fuelling our entrepreneurial drive with podcast hits via How I Built This. And along the ride, we learnt that turning our ‘reimagine the live classical music experience’ vision to reality involves 1) ridiculous belief in the face of no's, 2) convincing ourselves that we've financially invested in the right things, and 3) being ok with always feeling like we're battling with time.
So, why?
“Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
Yes, I quote the 1997 Apple ad. Over the last 4 years, we've grown from a piano trio of fresh music graduates, to a cross-disciplinary collaboration platform of musicians, designers, artists - building professional expertise in diverse day jobs, but coming together to reimagine the live classical music experience. Thinking beyond just music, has in fact opened up our minds, and the possibilities of music. anon. is now a growing network for the creatively curious - the ones who are always looking around the corner to discover something new, the ones who simply aren’t satisfied with things being done the way it’s always been done, the ones who gravitate towards a creative challenge, question the status quo, and find a way to think different, experience different.
As my 8 year old student ever so wisely told me “I don’t mind making mistakes actually. It helps me learn. It's my favourite thing to do. Followed by eating pasta.” I remind myself of this "fast fast, learn fast" mentality as we create and develop Special Projects that push us out of our comfort zones and into new, adenaline-inducing territories. Check out our projects to find out more!
Our ask of you is to keep the conversation going - be creative, be curious. We want to hear from you! Shoot through your questions, and we'll get back to you in our next post!
Till then,
Nicole
