In our first self-produced collaboration involving music, fashion, and film, we explore how contemporary classical composers and their works present new soundscapes, and how the moving image could help bring to life a new identity.
We reflected on our process of learning and discovering a contemporary sound palette - new works for piano, violin, cello and oboe by Martinu, Ross Edwards and Robin Holloway. Each of these were a discovery of Czech, Australian and English soundscapes respectively - each distinct in their own right. We toyed with the juxtaposition of the old versus the new, both in the music, as well as our promotional video. We wanted to represent this idea through a visual narrative, and worked with videographer Eric Trinh, fashion designers Melati de Jong and Kara Liu, to put together a short clip. Taking the idea of music, fashion and film one step further, we produced our very first fashion film in response to Ross Edwards' piano trio, performed with live piano trio that accompanied the short film screening. This was an exploration of different creative mediums coming together to represent music and change the audience experience.
